The addition of individuals being able to block instances on their own should be a much needed relief from this. This feature can’t come soon enough.

Just start using the block user and block community features. I block shit and people all the time. The cry babies are for some reason averse to it, but you don’t have to be.

I mean, the whole point of the fediverse is self-moderating. Each instance is allowed and encouraged to operate how it pleases, so instances that don’t tolerate hate speech, brigading, Nazis, and tankies are, imo, justified in removing such content as well as defederating from instances ripe with those issues. Likewise, instances that are more permissive of those kinds of things are free to defederate (or not) with whomever they please. If people are unhappy with how their local instance has acted, they can just migrate to another instance. This “drama” is just the fediverse working as it is supposed to.
It’s kinda like connecting a sleepy road as a bypass or service road to an incredibly busy highway. I dont blame anyone for being a little alarmed at the monstrous increase of activity all of a sudden
To be fair, the self-congratulatory threads on Hex are getting old too. Yes, I get it, there was dunks, keep it to the tank.
One nice thing about smaller instances… Fewer people to bully the admin into constantly defederating the Monster of the Week.
It seems like the bigger the instance, the more posts you see like this.

What I don’t get is what is stopping people from joining a smaller instance more adjusted to their tastes? Like if you join large instance made for the general user, don’t be surprised if you see a political opinion or meme you disagree with. world and ml tend to block only the most egregious of instances.
There are plenty of instances that cater to the political and social leanings of people if you really can’t stand being outside a bubble, but fediverse isn’t simply one site, and you can’t bully or complain your way into shaping the culture of lemmy or fediverse in general. That is part of the beauty of this site, and for how many here complained about the homogeneity of reddit, its funny how now the big complaint is people are seeing opinions they don’t like.
There are simple solutions to all of that, but it involves being proactive in the users and communities you block, and being selective of the instance(s) you join.
I really don’t care about admin announcements other than Kbin. They can talk about whatever they fucking want.
