Kenneth Freeman pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in the death of Ashlee McGill.

These man children playing with their toys and what is the punishment, only 5 years? The victim’s child, who will now be 7 has no mother for the rest of his life.

Here is the original story of the homicide https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2023/09/street-racer-gets-5-year-prison-sentence-in-crash-that-killed-26-year-old-woman-waiting-at-portland-bus-stop.html

You’d get 5 years for trying to hold up a plaid pantry and not hurting anyone, but plow through a bus stop at godknowshowfast while street racing and cream a young mother and alter her child’s life forever? 5 years. Appalling.

Putting this guy in a cage isn’t going to bring back the victim or help the child. I’d much rather take away his license and make him pay child support than further support the prison industrial complex.

Many years community service as well.

I would be ok with at least 72,000 hours of community service.

I was thinking about that too and couldn’t remember, didn’t Oregon pass a law about child support or was that somewhere else?

If you wanna kill someone badly enough, do it with your car.

I think it’d also help to be on drugs too.

Plea deal. That’s how. The government traded a 100% conviction instead of going to court.

And he’ll probably be out in 18 months or less.

Should have big mandatory minimums for this kind of thing, but we treat vehicle assaults very leniently here in Oregon - just look at the DUI wrecks with injury and killings.

But, that requires enforcement. PPB is so inept they can’t even handle a takeover.

It’s not just Oregon, in the US pedestrians are absolutely disposable in a world where most folks get around by driving. Lawsuits pay but the rules don’t change.
