You don’t have an account with Mastodon. You have a Mastodon account with sdf.org. Their mailing list that sent the email and the Mastodon instance they run are probably separate systems. You can forward your email to membership@sdf.org and ask to be removed.
Just a reminder that “Mastodon” is the software, not the specific service provider. Mastodon.sdf.org is different from, say, Mastodon.social even though they run the same software.
If you haven’t already, you should contact the admin for that instance with your concerns. The contact the site lists is mastodon@mastodon.sdf.org
I really hope it all gets solved to your satisfaction! The folks around the Mastodon project really seem to want to keep things good. I’m not a Zuck fan either. Looking at some of the people Threads is using as standard bearers, Jack Posobiec and that group, it’s unlikely the Threads instance will satisfy the criteria for Federation anyway. :)
If you look at the email screenshot it’s from sdf.org. They’re pretty awesome and I’m guessing it’s just some sort of oversight. OP should just send them an email and I’m sure they’d resolve it.
That e-mail isn’t from Mastodon, it’s from SDF.org. It relates to their Mastodon instance - and Mastodon in general - but it’s specifically an update relating to the service they offer.
Might want to check to see if you have an account there.

If you don’t want the email and have no unsubscribe button, report as Spam. It sucks but them’s the rules.

You won’t have to worry about your data. Mastodon is cool.
Considering they deleted their account years ago but they kept their contact data: yes, they should worry.
Yes. Somehow I misunderstood/misread what happened.

Hopefully you can get it all sorted out. I guess the account was with Eugen’s instance, mastodon.social? Sorry, I initially misread your post.

Oh, absolutely! Good people.

I mean… Are you panicking over a mail? I’m missing something…

You can export your mastodon user to other instance. There are plenty of them that have started to block threads.

Only looking at the collapsed post I can see why they might think it was about Threads.
