How long a crate can be left unupdated to consider it out of date?
When I install some Linux app from, let's say GitHub, I can feel how long without updates means the project is not maintained.\ For example last commit being 5 years ago for GTK app is a long time and this is considered an abandoned repo. For super simple things like cowsay it's not that simple but still I can feel it. How is that with crates with Rust? I see a lot of parsers or web libraries that are not updated for a year, two years, three years... How old is too old?\ Also, many of them have a version 0.x.x, so can I even consider them stable?

I think having your own store you control, like with WooCommerce, is enough.

What we need is more freedom respecting payment system and the closest thing I saw someone is working on is GNU Taler.

There are better ideas to do the same, such as GNU Taler, that could be incorporated into existing Internet infractructure, work locally and be more environment friendly.

Git is decentralized, but services like GitHub/GitLab/Gitea/SourceHut are adding things like issue board, pull requests, planners… Those are historically only on the platform and it needs to be decentralized too, because not every project wants to use biggest platform like GitHub or host something themselfs, while contributors and users don’t want to have multiple accounts for multiple forges.

I am torn up 🤷.

On one hand I just want one standard NOW and am sick of hunderds of apps. On the other hand it is just a Pixelfed client with other view, like DeltaChat is to email.

Edit: fix typo

Yes, it does not protect metadata great. It is visible that you and your interlocutor are talking together and when.

But noone figured out how to prevent that in federated systems. You rather have less metadata in centralized place for everyone or more metadata but only for small subset of people.

Matrix is getting better on fast peace, we need to give it another yew years to fix biggest holes I guess.

ActivityPub based chat is going to suck much. Like basing chat on RSS or FTP, it can be done but why. Unless we’re talking just about replicating Instagram-like DMs then maybeee? But I still would like to just add link to Matrix in bio instead of having chat in yet another place.
