CamRanger 2
Anyone used the Cam Ranger 2?

Well, the low end 1000D are kind of small DSLRs as they go IIRC. So most ILC (interchangeable lens cameras) are unlikely to be much smaller - the lens also tends to make up a lot of the space if it’s a Zoom. Primes can be pretty small if they’re wide angle / cheaper / narrow max aperture.

Also, if you use an adapter and existing lenses, even if the Camera is smaller, the “length” from back to front will likely be the same cause the adapter just adds back that spacing so the lenses work.

If you’re not limited by the actual image quality and QOL features of the 1000D, then I think a larger purse will likely be less than 500 euro unless it’s designer.

That said, if you absolutely want a new camera, you should look at the Canon R50 and the R10 (R10 is a better option, costs more) plus the EF to RF adapter. These will give you some of the mirrorless improvements in use, at the cost of battery life. They probably will take higher quality images - 2008 is actually far enough back where camera sensors noticeably improved and got higher resolution.

You could also cross shop the Canon EF-M cameras - which while pretty much a “dead system” are really small, can use an adapter to use your existing lenses, probably cheaper, and again, if you’re ok “throwing it out later on”, do have lenses that are also quite small for the system.

I think your friend just doesn’t want to put in 5 minutes of effort. And honestly, that’s fine. I think the average reddittor has been kind of trending that way for a while, and I wish him the best of luck hanging out with people who can’t be assed to put in 5 minutes to figure anything out. I might be wrong, but especially for technical content I think the mean will drop much further on reddit.

I kind of don’t necessarily want another locked in non-federated site to replace reddit when we have lemmy and other potentially better / less locked in options.

That said, I’m not against standalone forums, so tildes.net … well, it looks like a currently less successful lemmy instance with about the same or less engagement, and I can’t see how one would sign up if one wanted to. Last I heard there was an invite process? No thanks really.

You also need to really define “reddit alternative” - do you mean a forum? Or something trying like lemmy to be a sort of clone? In the “forum” link aggregation option, there’s HackerNews. There’s the BBS The Well. There’s sort of internet service provider focused forums like dslreports.com.

Canon R5 and adapter with the 24-70 f2.8 ef ii lens.

Pretty happy with this given my seating location and 24-70 f2.8.

This is a rollercoaster that sprays water, but it’s all behind the riders so no one gets wet I don’t think.

One of a series of a rollercoaster in Busch Gardens VA.

I get news posts on Mastadon. Like a rss feed from lots of places without me going through different feeds.

Yea, I found Mastodon useful for news, albeit completely random non focused news. It gets updates (I assume by bots) way more than the news subreddit did in the last few years, and now I can just post one of those links into lemmy if I want to talk about it.

I also see pictures on there a lot, but I’m not super interested in a lot of them. I have no idea what the commenting is useful for there - it’s seems like yelling into a void, though maybe that’s the fedilab problem? IDK.

I think some of that is your YouTube profile, because I regularly reject recommended content on YouTube that has 250 subs or 1000 views. Mostly because it’s someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing in terms of making an engaging video so I get super bored quick. I don’t know how to tell you to change it, I do get stuff I ignore in the newpipe default list thats huge and completely uninteresting to me. But that may just be a default link, and I never go to just YouTube.com without just using it to search for a channel I like. I also don’t like or subscribe as I don’t really want another indicator of the channels I might watch. They can figure it out from what I load anyway.

I would also try fedilab. Though I never used Twitter and Mastodon seems to me like a slightly odd rss feed of pictures and news, and a bunch of stuff in languages I don’t speak.

Firehaze in upstate NY today from the Canadian wildfires. Never looked like this before in my life. My sister says it’s like Guangjou when she was there and my mom says it’s like LA in the 70s.

Edit: Canon R5, 24mm, auto white balance and program mode. Couldn’t hardly breath even with N95 on to dial in settings more. I like it - looks like it did look lol.
