Fast Wireless Tethering
I am looking at a project that will require rather fast transfer of the shots I get. I will be outside in the nature at different locations and my Android phone is my only connection to the storage target over 4G/5G/LTE. From what I can tell there are a number of options: * Shooting with a FTP tether over the phone WiFi to upload to the destination * Shooting with a USB tether to..? My phone? A computer? * Using wireless tether addons for greater transfer speeds, but also that will be to a computer I guess..? Have anyone of you done this before with good transfer speeds? I've seen videos where people mention RAW transfer times of 10-20 seconds. That will create a huge queue of photos for me to upload. Is wired USB tether to a computer with a good internet connection the only way to achieve this? I am OK with shooting compressed RAW to keep file sizes down, but the transfer speeds still have to be fast for this to be reliable. All in all I just want it to be fast and reliable with as little hardware as possible. I understand this post is more or less just a brain dump. I appreciate any pointers or suggestions. I have never really shot tethered before, so this is jumping into the deep end of the pool directly. Thanks. Edit: I am looking at getting an Sony a7iii for this, but want the solution to work for as many different camera models as possible.

I was standing there to take these photos (photo 1, photo 2) and the ambulance just happened to pass by when I had all the settings ready for this type of shot. It was all just good luck and timing 😄

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it! :)

I put the camera on a wooden structure by the road so it would stay still 😄 Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!

I set the exposure time to 6 seconds and used a very small aperture. The ambulance being too dark and also moving too much makes it not “stick” on the photo. But the flashing blue lights stick despite moving because they emit a lot of light. You can also see the people in the background were not completely still, so they are all blurry.

It’s pretty easy as long as you have some patiance!

I saw them shake off some water after having dipped themselves i the pond, so set the shutter to about 1/1200 and waited.

When they finally did something I had to be quick and sure to already have the focus ready 😄

Hol’ up…

How did you know this was in Oslo? Or was it just a strange coincidence? This is on the roof of the Oslo opera building.

Thank you! The story behind the photo is way less interesting than it might seem. If you want to ruin the magic for yourself I added a spoiler element to this comment that you can expand if you really want to know where and how I got this shot.

Explanation/Spoiler

This photo was taken at the amusement park where I live which has been temporarily Halloween themed. The character in the shot is an actor in a costume employed by the park. In the un-cropped version attached below you can see other park visitors and the entrance to the toilets.

Aha, as in neato. A true spooktober connoisseur.

I will take that as a compliment, but I have no idéa what it means

Heres a portrait one that might even have a better perspective

It is taken at 1/400 shutter speed, f/14, 400 ISO

Also it was a very bright day. So there was a lot of light

My best guess would be that it has something to do with the lighting.

I assure you that it is not AI though

I was in a public area of the park, but climbed some stones in the edge of the allowed area to get this angle.

I am using a 50mm full frame lens on a crop sensor camera body, so effectively 75mm focal length.

I felt the same when I saw it. It really stood out and told a story. I hope so as well.

All of that was added in post processing. It really did turn out well

Thank you! Always enjoy sharing my shots
