General love of all things linux and the choice it provides. I prefer to hang my hat in gentoo with e16 but do like to keep up with other stuff.

@jakob Exactly what I’m always tellin folks…

@butter Maybe they can help push Mastodon to having features everyone there’s been asking for that are quite common throughout the rest of the fediverse. ;)

@jax I think what all #ActivityPub connected things need is a standard for intercommunication. Things that don’t necessarily get passed, but can be pulled, cached, and updated. Basic things such as timestamp in UTC, service used, post/reply hierarchy, full comment threads, title vs body, and surely a few more. Each service could add their own flairy bits on top of that to give their software its unique flavor. The likes/dislikes or up/down votes replicating to everyone is something I’ve heard is a deliberate(?) ““feature””. Personally, I don’t think those need to be any more than an acknowledgement between two people, not a public advertisement of comment popularity.

@jax It sucks you can’t subscribe to #PeerTube stuff from #Lemmy. Simply having the ability to pull hashtags into your feed would be a nice touch. Or just letting users subscribe to things via #RSS could help.

I comment on PeerTube stuff from #Friendica but don’t see any (dis)like counts and only some of the comments. If the video post is looked at from #Mastodon, it seems to display all the comments, #Pleroma shows the same limited few as Friendica, and #Misskey shows most of the comments seen on PeerTube. But none show any (dis)like counts from PeerTube, the ones they do show are limited to how likes are distributed for that software.

As far as Lemmy votes are concerned, they display and function quite nicely within Friendica. I shows me the same number of both up/down votes as likes/dislikes as I see if I look at them on Lemmy.

Maybe one day somebody will unlock the secret for full interoperability amongst all ActivityPub services. Till then, we’re just stuck trying to find ways around the limitations we have.

@caos @butter All depends on what you’re looking to get out of it. I’ve been quite happy with Friendica but it took me trying ~10 other things to learn that. I landed on it because it gave me the most compatibility with other fediverse things. Hubzilla or Streams are two others that offer even more compatibility but I haven’t yet gotten comfortable enough with either to make a decision. Everything has slightly different features to offer, so I’d recommend give em all a ride. The main base models are going to be Mastodon, Pleroma, and Misskey. Each of those have a handful of forks to look at as well. If you’re looking to self-host any of them, none are overly difficult as far as I understand.

These pages should provide you with more info than you probably want on em all.

@Veritas Something with a Friendica/Streams style backend and a Pleroma-like frontend would be awesome.

@butter, @dessalines, I’ve grown quite fond of Friendica for that very thing, following things, not just people. Not only does it let me follow topics via tags, but things like #lemmy and #guppe get added as “forums”, plus I can follow any #RSS or #Atom feed. All of these are added the same as adding any other contact (follow). All of these different ways of following things get listed in the same area of my account, as “contacts”, where they can be easily separated into to multiple groups (lists). Each followed hashtag, forum, contact group, or protocol type is always listed down the side of my page where I can simply click on it to filter my current feed.

I know that other #fediverse / #ActivityPub interfaces such as #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #Misskey, #Calckey, #Hubzilla, and #Streams have some/all of these capabilities, each to their own extent. However, having played around extensively with all of them, I’ve come to find that #Friendica is the one that works best for me. And at the end of the day, this is the only thing that matters. It may be a bit time consuming, but trying all the things is the best (only?) way to see how they’ll work for you.

@salarua, @madcodger, the PWA is excellent! I’ve found it to be extremely responsive, even on older android devices. It’s a very nicely built UI/UX. For me, it’s already everything Misskey is but a bit more polished.

@ada Just something as simple as the little Link to source button(?) on each post that Friendica has would be quite welcome in any of the other interfaces. But maybe one that links to the full thread or at least shows the original post.

@serenity @f00fc7c8 @rom Good to know. I’ve noticed it mostly on post pulled in from hashtag follows. I thought maybe it could be something to do with how those are polled.

@serenity It’s pretty awesome being able to interact with lemmy threads from Friendica now!

@serenity @f00fc7c8 @rom This is the kinda speed problems I see with Friendica that I don’t see with other AP interfaces.

@serenity @f00fc7c8 @rom It’s not even sorta fast, but I’ve found it to be the most functional for me out of the bunch. In addition to Friendica, I’ve played around with Diaspora, Mastadon, Pleroma, Misskey, plus the forks Calckey and Akkoma. Friendica’s ability to easily follow tags and rss feeds, plus the lemmy and diaspora integration, as well as the ease of import/export really shows where some of the others are lacking. That said, UI/UX customization in Friendica leaves quite a bit to be desired.
