Is the whole Amazon obsession just a North American thing? I’ve bought like 4 things from them in my life and nothing since about 2016 and I haven’t felt at all inconvenienced. From my perspective it’s not too hard to either buy from local companies, directly from foreign manufacturers, or from aliexpress if all else fails; that may just be because I’m not American though!

I used Reddit Sync for about a decade before switching to Infinity for Reddit, tried giving Sync another go after the Lemmy version released and it just felt wrong whereas the Lemmy fork of Infinity is a joy to use (and is FOSS)!

On Jerboa - probably the most developed/supported Android Lemmy app - text input is so buggy that it’s practically unusable for me. Trying to edit the end of a comment will sometimes remove chunks from the middle, backspacing a few characters from the end of a word deletes the space in front of it etc.

Personally I wouldn’t have a major problem with unobtrusive simple banner ads that are not at all personalised like what we had 15+ years ago, though I really prefer to just not see ads at all nowadays.

Not my cup of tea personally but that’d definitely be better for the creators and likely better for the customers too!

Mastodon is kinda similar to Lemmy but replaces Twitter rather than Reddit. They both use they same underlying technology though which is why kbin can talk to both!
