They can build an activitypub compliant app and service? They don’t have to touch the open source project.

Apple has an amazing amount of influence. They could easily make the platform, and break it in an instance whenever they felt like it.

Good point. Are there any protections to prevent that? I believe if they use Mastodon, they have to publish the source code. I believe Activity Pub would be the same, assuming it has a good license. But they could always use their own code without touching the open source implementation.

Apple made Mastodon guide
Is Apple going to make a Mastodon server? I think that'd be pretty cool. In Apple fashion, it would require an app only available on iPhone and Mac, and this app wouldn't be able to connect to third party instances. But it would move like half the US to Mastodon, which would be great.

Okay. Thank you very much. I have a lot of reading to do. I’ll be sure to report on what I do and my opinion on whatever I land on.

Interesting. It’s account central considered better? Or more complete? Maybe I should try one of those, what do you recommend?

Looking for an entry to the Fediverse that's made for a single user. Preferably Reddit/Lemmy-like.
I'm hosting and running a Lemmy just for myself, and am having no problem with it. Lemmy is great. But I'm looking to branch out, and see what else exists out there.

I used Mastodon for a brief moment, but I had a hard time with the “Twitter” of it. I’m not used to following people, I like to follow Topics.

I don’t know any of the other hashtags you mentioned.

I’m using Lemmy, and you’re right. I’m liking it though, and am considering donating to it.

It’s very light, though.
